our legacy players
Our adult league began almost 20 years ago at Jersey City's Soccer Learning Center. What started out as adult pickup games in a small church gym grew to become one of the area's most active and engaged adult soccer leagues. In 2022, we moved our league to Shetik Field in Secaucus and began an indoor program in the town's Humboldt Gym during the winter. In 2024, we kicked off a reenergized adult league program under the Secaucus Soccer brand name. We're proud to introduce a few of our legacy players who have been such a valued part of our soccer family for many years.
jose rodriguez - cosmos
Jose is the team captain for the Cosmos. He joined our league in 2009 and has been an active player and participant in many of our charitable initiatives and community events.
"My name is Jose Rodriguez and I've been with the league for about 15 years. To say that Secaucus Soccer is a community is a bit of an understatement - it's really more like a family. Throughout the years, I've made lifelong friends - some of whom are my dearest friends. I've been to their birthday parties, BBQs, weddings, you name it. I really did not know the game of soccer prior to joining, but now I'm a full-blown fanatic. I've been to two World Cups, one Euro Cup, and many USA National Team games throughout the country. A large part of all of that Is because of the Secaucus Soccer community. If you want to join for the game, you're welcomed. If you want to join for the friendships, you're also welcomed. Just be careful that one beer at a local bar after our matches may lead to years of banter with people whom you otherwise would never have met!
Michael Mandell - Whitening
Mike is one of our longest-serving team members and enthusiastically supports many of our soccer-related causes. He is the current team captain for Whitening and is always one of the first players to volunteer to lend a hand when needed.
"I have been involved with Coach Alex's Thursday Night Adult League in addition to many of his associated events for approximately 20 years. Over the years, I have served as a player on team Whitening and am now captaining and managing the team. The team is constantly in flux because of personnel year-to-year. What doesn't change is the life of this league. It's challenging, competitive, fun, and great for fitness. Alex really helps bring out the best to the competition. I recommend this league to those interested in futsal style soccer for most levels of play."
